La Fortuna, Costa Rica

Started the day early as we planned an hour and a half drive to the Tenorio Volcano National Park. It’s to the north, fairly close to the Nicaragua border.

Interesting scenery on the drive.

One lane bridges.

At the park.

Off and on warm rains showers.

We're all just lovely in our flimsy ponchos

Along the trail.

Top of 251 stairs down to the main waterfall.

The fancy handrails were actually concrete!

The wet hike back up was invigorating.

Beautiful rainforest views

A bit sloppy on the trail

This bubbling area is a hot water vent from the volcano, very sulfur smelly!

Lovely calm River upstream of the waterfall.

Swinging bridge

A different swinging bridge.

This is the junction of two creeks, one high alkaline from the volcano (milky blue) and one a fresh water stream(clear)

The sun did come out occasionally.  We were ready for a rest after 4.5 miles of occasionally difficult terrain.

Back at the park entrance we bought a lovely fresh bowl of cool sliced mangos. A nice snack.

Driving back to LA Fortuna

I wanted to mention the fence posts in Costa Rica. Almost all of the many, many cow pastures are bordered with barbed wire fence. But they don't bury fence posts like we're used to. They appear to plant small trees and attach the wire to them! The trees are alive and well.

And lastly, the casado of the evening. We were all very tired and turned in early.
