Little Ragged Island, Bahamas

 Another busy day!

We started the day by going back to the shore on Ragged Island and loading up the firewood.  Ed and Cathy loading their dinghy.

With both dinghies loaded, we headed across the cut to our campfire spot on Little Ragged.

We took it nice and slow so we didn't lose any of the firewood overboard!

Piled up all the sticks - ready for the next bonfire.

Later in the day, we all piled in the two dinghies to go into Duncan Town.  Nicholas and Dee's dinghy was in town being repaired - it was ready for pickup so that's the mission.

We waited at the "airplane" for pickup by the mechanic Myron.  Fortunately for us, Mrs. Alma Wilson saw us milling around and came out for a chat.  She and her late husband Percy had run the "Eagles Nest" bar/restaurant until it was damaged in the hurricane 4 years ago.  She told us the story of the plane - it appears to be a DC3 or some such airplane.  It overshot the landing on the runway and was mostly destroyed.  She thinks it was probably a drug-running plane.  Percy volunteered to remove the wreckage and they allowed him to keep it.  She said he had an old Allis Chalmers tractor - he just hooked it up and pulled it about 1/2 mile to their property.  Until the hurricane damage, it was a very popular spot for locals and cruisers.  We wish her the best in getting it repaired and reopened!

Before long, Myron showed up with his pickup truck.  We all piled in and rode into town.

We did the usual grocery shopping for a few fresh veggies and eggs. We brought 2 fuel containers in for gasoline, but Maxine was waiting on her supply (in 55 gallon drums) to come up from the mailboat.   No problem, we paid her for the gas and she will send it down to the airport later in the day for us to pickup.  Warm day but it was passed lunchtime and the Ponderosa bar was closed.  So Jolly opened up the  bar for us to have a few cold drinks.  So nice of them!

Down to the dock to take Nicholas/Dee's dinghy back to the anchorage.  A local fellow had his day's catch of conch on the dock.  Dee bought a few from him and scooped them out of the slimy cooler herself.

The repair to the dinghy wasn't exactly finished....they had to call Myron for a bit of tweaking.....got it running.

And then we had a fun ride back to the anchorage in their large dinghy!

Dee enjoying the ride.

Right at low tide, Maxine called and said that she was sending some fellows to the airport with our fuel jugs....so we hopped in the dinghy and sped over there.  We couldn't get close to shore with the dinghy because it was too shallow.  Here the local fellow is bringing our jugs down to the waterline.  We waved thanks and they were off back to town.  We waded over and picked up the jugs.....boy it's complicated getting supplies down here!

And then it was sundown - got a nice sunset shot of Nicholas and Dee.

And Dee finished the day with a bit of a silly act with some beach rubbish.....and I don't even think she'd been drinking!
