Pittsboro, NC

Our neighbor told us they would be tilling under their rows of edamame and  invited us to pick any that was left in their garden.  The problem is, it's crazy hot right now and bending over the bean bushes is just an energy drain.

So we decided that it would be much better to simply harvest the entire plants and take them to the shade of the hangar to pick off the pea-pods.  We ended up with 2 big garbage bags full of plants.  It just took about a half hour to pull all the pods off and discard the vegetation.

We got a huge tote sock full of pods.

Quite a big process to shell that many pods!!  First I washed off the garden dirt and boiled them until tender in salt water.  Then we both spent hours shelling the beans.  Into the freezer (and lots eaten while shelling of course).    Fun to get "free" stuff but it sure was time-consuming to process!
