Water Cay, Jumentos Cays, Bahamas

We were up with the sun for our departure to Water Cay.

Winds were forecast to be 15-18 knots and seas 4' with a 12 second period. So would be brisk but tolerable....Leaving Buenavista Cay going north inside on the banks all was calm.  But as we exited into the ocean side at Nurse Channel, things got a little more salty.

Passing the Channel Cay beacon, the seas were more like 5-6' but mostly from aft.  Wind speeds were 20 gusting to 25 at times.  Great fishing weather.  (That's just my silly statement - we only seem to catch fish when the conditions are salty!)

Sure enough - within the hour we had not one, but two Mahi-Mahi's on the lines.  One got off the hook - but this nice one was landed!

Went in the fridge in a garbage bag to be filleted once we get to Water Cay.  (Would have been dangerous to wield a fillet knife while underway!)

As we approached Water Cay the cut had wind-against-current waves building.  I got no recording of this as I was busy hand steering thru several minutes of 10' rolling seas.  Exciting entrance!  Once inside the cut, beautiful!

Duane got busy filleting the fish.  A nice big fat one!

All cleaned up and ready to be vacuum packed and frozen.

Ready for the freezer.

That chore done and cleaned up, we went for a little dinghy ride to explore.  We've never spent much time at Water and wanted to go snorkeling but the winds did not die off as forecast.

Just a lovely uninhabited little island.

These waves on the ocean side are basically what we came thru in the cut.

But nice a calm on the other side.

The original plan when we left Hog Cay was to spend a nice calm day at Water Cay to explore tomorrow....but unfortunately the weather will turn to north winds the following day making our next move very difficult.  So, we'll depart Water Cay in the morning and head to Long Island...
