Up early again for the 45 mile motor/sail to Long Island. We had heard lots of chatter on the VHF between fishing boats - they were all anchored just north of Water Cay.
They were all getting ready to go fishing as we passed.
Uneventful motor/sail - 10 knot breeze behind us.
Getting closer to Long Island the water takes on a pretty tone over clear white sand.
Once anchored, we called the immigration officer at the airport - only to be told that we "must come in only one day before our visa expires for extension".... This is not good. Previous years we have been able to renew about 2 weeks prior to the expiration date. As often happens in the Bahamas, the rules are not clear and the officers seem to make up their own rules. We are investigating what to do....going to Georgetown is always an option (which we hope to avoid because Georgetown is a crowded mess....)
On a brighter note, as we came into the anchorage at Salt Pond we saw the familiar bow of another Manta! It is another Manta 40 - Skyfall. They hailed us on the VHF and we invited them over for sundown.
Jim and Michelle - lovely folks! This is their first time to the Bahamas so they are enjoying the new experience.
Much conversation, of course, about the Mantas and cruisers that we both know.
Lovely sunset but no green flash over the land.

ReplyDeleteWhat happened to being able to renew your visa by email, as we did the past few years?
ReplyDeleteThat option no longer exists!! Apparently that was only allowed during Covid. You must present your documents in person. I've contacted several immigration folks and they all say the same thing for once. Ridiculous if you ask me but they didn’t 🤷♂️🤷♀️🤷
