Salt Pond, Long Island, Bahamas

When we woke everything felt wet!  Total saturation.

Yep, there are boats anchored out there!  Wasn't expecting fog.  Fairly unusual in the Bahamas.

We had tentatively made plans with Jim & Michelle from Skyfall to take a rental car (if available) for an island tour.  This is there first time on the island so we played tour guide.  Neely their "really good dog" came along.  Most well-behaved dog I've been around in ages.

Settled in for a LOT of driving.

Unfortunately as we drove north the skies got a little misty and overcast.  The views were pretty but not as nice as they are when the sun is shining of course.

Up to the Columbus monument.

Jim, Michelle and Nelly.

Then on a mile or so to the Broken Bridge area.  The little beach bar was closed just like it was the last few times we'd been there.  We think maybe it's just open on weekends.

Then on to Stella Maris airport - we presented ourselves and passports to the immigration office there, hoping to get our visas extended.  The officer had us fill out forms and she took copies of our passports and documents.  She said that she would forward the paperwork to Exuma and would call me when she had a "decision".  We'll see if this works!

Since we're the tour guides, we stopped by the small cave where the Stella Maris resort hosted cookouts/events at some time in the past.  Cool idea but no longer used apparently.

And on to the Moonshine beach bar where they have what they call "nature's pool".  Well, it's not really natural because they cut out the rock along the shoreline to make it.....but interesting nonetheless.  Would be fun on a sunny day at low tide.

We stopped at Max's Conch Shack on the way south for a great lunch...forgot to snap a photo though...

On to Dean's Blue Hole....

Just a lovely place.  Nelly enjoyed it.

We climbed up the cliff while Jim took a bit of a swim.

After a brief tour around Clarencetown, we went all the way to the end of the island to Gordon's.

 Just a pleasant place!

Had a refreshing rum punch....

But the sun was getting low on the horizon and we were 45 miles away from the boats!   Long drive back but a fun day.

  1. Thank you SO much for being our tour guides!

You are brave folks volunteering to spend a day with us and our 80 pound fur baby in our tiny rental Toyota. Nelly is a very good pup, but is a lot of dog 🐶 in a little car!

We enjoyed our jam packed, fun filled day.
