Scarborough/York, England

Off on a 4 hr train journey north to York!

No crowds this time.  Great Western Railway for the first leg, transferring to Cross Country Railway for longer second leg. Quite comfortable.

Sights along the way.  Cool old farmhouses.  I didn’t notice this until I looked at the photo  there is a green narrow boat tied up on the left!

Lots of housing near the towns

Old railway buildings

Just a mix of towns and agriculture.

York train station.  We checked our bags at the hotel then quickly hopped on another train to Scarborough to take advantage of our Britrail passes.

Scarborough is like a small Coney Island with a castle on the hill….

I dipped my toe in the North Sea!!

Beautiful working harbour on the North Sea

Walking up the cliffs to the Scarborough Castle.

Cool ruins

St Mary’s Church….lots of churches named that here!

And finally we rode the little tram up the hill.

Good fun for a few moments.

Back on the train for the 45 minute journey back to York.  Different sights out of the opposite side of the train!

Another narrow boat….

Back to York to the hotel after a busy day!
