Forgot to mention the B&B we’re staying at on Isle of Skye. It’s the Viewfield House and is quite lovely.
Parlor - not sure we’ll be all that social…
Breakfast is fantastic! I chose the kipper - a local fish. It’s basically a whole smoked herring. Very good. Lots of tiny bones but you could actually eat them without too much fuss.
Off in the car for a full day of hiking. First up, The Old Man of Storr. Unique rock formations.
Lots of photo with little commentary. The views were absolutely stunning. I can’t wait to see these photos on my computer screen as I don’t think my phone does them justice.
It’s about a 3 mile round trip to the summit. We walked a loop that was less traveled by the crowds and quite beautiful.
Driving on, we stopped at a pull off marked for a waterfall view.
This bay was once very busy shipping diatomite - a chalky clay that was found a few miles inland. If you look closely you’ll see the remains of buildings on the shore.
The waterfall was quite lovely.
Back in the car, we stopped at Kilt Rocks. It is a waterfall that looks like a kilt supposedly because of the fold-like formations of the cliff face. I’m not sure but maybe the extended dry weather kept the falls from having flow. I could only make out a misty waterfall.
Next up was the Quiaring, a beautiful hike about 4 miles long. Single lane road made driving a little sketchy.
On the roadside.
Starting the ascent, the clouds were rolling in. Finally getting some typical Scottish weather!
It’s just amazing to look out at the landscape.
The photos really “flatten out” the views this is looking down the cliff maybe 500 feet or more. It was dizzying getting close to the edge.
No handrails and 30 knot winds! By the end of the day we’d racked up 29,000 steps and they were not all easy steps!!
The rain started about 10 minutes before we got back to the car so we felt like we timed it pretty well. Driving back through the little town of Uig.
There’s a huge ferry operation there.
Good to be back at the B&B to prop my feet up!
OK, you are making us want to visit, beautiful scenery
