Oriental, NC

The broker spent a couple of hours at the boat taking photos and recording.  I took a few photos too.  They already have the ad up on Yachtworld - you can see it here - want to buy a boat????  Yachtworld

Oriental, NC

Doing some last minute cleanup and repairs before the broker comes to document the new boat.

The "non-slip treads" that were on the stern had seen their better days.....

So I used a razor and removed all the old tread.   Cut and installed new tread so now we'll have a no-slip entrance to the boat!

But the highlight of the day was Duane spending a few hours with the generator.....it was having starter issues.  So we replaced the starter with a spare on board.  No real change.  Duane traced some wires and eventually figured out through trail-and-error that the problem was a bad connection, not the stater motor.  So, he decided to put the original starter back in place, removing the spare new starter once again.  (The spare went back in the boat to be used when really needed).  Good fun!

The broker will be here soon and we're ready now!

Busy still every day getting the new boat ready for sale.  Almost finished - the broker will stop by tomorrow to take all the photos for the ad.

Meanwhile on Sojourn, the rigger came by to do the final tuning (adjustment) to the new rigging after the boat.

July Meeting

OOPS - I published my book club post to this blog by mistake!!!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks to Jean for hosting the meeting at her lovely home!!

We all enjoyed "The Lost Girls of Paris" and were not happy how they were used by the British government during WWII.  The things we learn from reading historical fiction!

The book to read for Augusts is "White Houses" by Amy Bloom.  It is about the close relationship of Eleanor Roosevelt and Lorena Hickok.

Karen will be hosting the next meeting on August 27.

Back at the boat(s). Time to get serious and get the new boat ready to put on the market!

I needed to scrub the waterline so I got all my tool and potions together.  We lowered the dinghy and I proceeded to spend a couple of hours scrubbing and washing.  Hard to do while the boat is in the water!  Much easier when the boat is hauled out.

The waterline was pretty nasty.  Just lots of normal warm-weather growth and some Neuse River tanic water stains.

Looks a lot better! Not perfect but good enough for the brokers photos.

Much other cleaning and organizing was accomplished. Just one more day should have things in good order.

Pittsboro, NC

Pretty mundane but relaxing days lately!  It's been pretty overcast/rainy lately - had a nice break yesterday when we went out to eat in downtown Pittsboro with neighbors Dick and Lindy.  They took us on a little driving tour around the new construction at Chatham Park.  Amazing transformation of our little town since we left for the Bahamas last November.  I don't believe it will be so "quaint" in the coming years.  Can't fight progress though!  (This photo almost looks like a painting but I just snapped it with my phone.)

Pittsboro, NC

Sorry, but this post is all about veggies again..

Lindy offered up some veggies and the chance for me to pick more.  They were going on a short trip and she told me to get what I wanted out of their garden.

You know you don't have to ask me twice!

Okra quickly tossed in corn meal and fried up.

They have a lot of green peppers - I picked a bunch off a bush that was wilting and would be dead soon.  These look a bit sad but I chopped them up and froze them for use in stews later.

Their tomatoes are on their last legs.  I think the heat has made gardening this year a bit of a challenge.  But the tomatoes are yummy even if they're not pretty!

They cucumbers are still going strong....the cherry tomatoes are about finished though.

I pulled a few ears of corn.  They're great tasting but a little funky pollination makes for some weird ears.

And I picked some jalapenos - added these to the ones Denise gave me....I can't use them all so chopped up.....

Corn and jalapenos headed for the freezer.

And the last thing I did this afternoon was fry up a bunch of the yellow summer squash for Keith and Denise's garden.

I just wanted to shout out to Keith and Denise for sending me home with lots of wonderful veggies.

Made a huge stir fry last night with kohlrabi and bok choy. Very yummy and fresh.

Pittsboro, NC

Time to head back to the house....pretty and green up in the mountains.

But wow!!!  Temp on the hot pavement.  On the white concrete of the interstate, the temp was down to 100F....

And as we were about 1/2 way home, Pat called to invite us over for an impromptu gathering at their pool in the evening.  Nice to catch up with Pat/Diane and Dick/Lindy!
