Sailing towards Wurzburg, Germany

 We had some interesting entertainment last night, a "gypsy jazz" band.  Local fellows, the had to finish up and be ready to literally jump off the boat with their instruments as we cleared a lock.

In the morning  we rode the bus just a few minutes into Bamburg.

Our guide told us that this was an area that once housed fisherman and the houses were built on stilts like in Venice. 

Interesting architecture.   Bamburg was not heavily damaged in WW2 so many old buildings remain.

The Bamberg Cathedral was huge.  

We walked around the complex seeing the "new residence " built in the 1600's by the emperor.

Our guided tour ended at the gate and we were free to explore on our own. 

We wandered the streets just taking in the scenery. 

And we went back to the cathedral  to go inside. Indivual tourists are allowed inside the active church, but tours are not allowed. 

Emperor Heinrich and his wife are entombed in the cathedral. 

Our last order of business was to sample the local "smokey" beer.  

It was fun and interesting but not something we'd drink every day. 

Enjoyed our beers with new friends Bernadette,  John,Diane and Larry. 

Back onto the buses, a 30 minute ride took us to Zeil where our boat had moved..a rather industrial area. 

We were quickly underway again...approaching a lock. 

We had several hours of free time....we sat in the lounge area and read our Kindles while we motored along the canal. 

After supper we joined in with a fun little trivia game and called it a night.
